Choosing The Right Keyphrases For Your Web Site

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

There are two main ways that people use Google, Yahoo and MSN. The first is for research purposes and the other is for buying purposes.
The keywords used by people researching are therefore
different to those used by people looking to buy. When choosing keywords for your website you need to look at what sort of visitor you are looking to attract.

A search engine user looking to buy a Paul Frank t-shirt is likely to use a term like Buy Paul Frank Clothes or Buy Paul Frank T-shirts as these terms should produce results from businesses that sell Paul Frank merchandise. If they were researching into the business or the designer then terms like About Paul Frank Industries or Paul Frank Designer would be used.

This is not the case for all keyphrases though. If someone already knows the product description or id number then they may use that to search for their desired product. Someone searching for a Vitalograph Emergency Aspirator might use the keyphrase (M1830) Vitalograph Aspirator as it includes the product number. This is likely to return results for pages with the specific product on so it is easy for the user to compare prices.

There are also some search terms that cover both research and buying visitors. Terms like these relate to both people researching and people looking to buy.For instance someone who was looking to research into local web design and search engine optimisation companies is likely to use terms like Web Design Salisbury or Web Design Wiltshire. These terms are also likely to be used by someone who is looking to use the services of a web design company or search engine optimisation team.

Make sure you have your website well designed and decently optimised.

For a while I worked for myself, I was so focused on the business at hand that I didn?t see the greatest of tools, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and excellent web design. Most people are used to working with older types of marketing to get there business seen but not many of those actually understand how good the return on investment is when a website is created well.

There are a lot of sites on the web that are either out of date or attempt to put to much into the website itself and lose the focus of what the website is actually about. The right way to find out what you need to about your website is to use the web, just as you are using the internet now to discover information that relates to good web design and search engine optimisation for your local area, type in words like Web Design Salisbury to point you in the correct direction.

Clients to your website should need to spend money almost as soon as they get to your front page, if the web design for your site has no relevance to the person that has just arrived on it they will just as quickly move off it and go else where to spend there hard earned cash.
Web design cant be under estimated, but the same weight should be given to the Search Engine Optimisation that is done on the site, allowing the website to be recognised for what it is in the search engines so that it shows up for the correct searches your customers are typing in.

Its only through doing appropriate long term work to a website that you can make it work properly, efficiently and give you a good return on investment there are no immediate solutions just processes that will work to make your website number excellent in the search engines for your individual topic.
